What are Blues Scales?
Blues scales can be thought of as “bebop pentatonic scales.” Just the same way that the bebop scale involves adding one note to the major scale, so does the blues scale add one note to the pentatonic scale.
Minor Blues Scale
The minor blues scale is a minor pentatonic scale with a sharp 4 added. This produces the classic lamenting blues tonality.

The major blues scale is a major pentatonic scale with a natural 3 included. This gives the uplifting, upbeat blues sound.
